Apprenticeships in Ontario
Step 1: Find out if you qualify
- 16 years +
- Legal permission to work in Canada
- Meet the education requirements for your chosen trade
- Have a sponsor in Ontario.
Step 2: Find a sponsorÂ
A sponsor is the person responsible for ensuring you receive all the required training in your apprenticeship program. Some sponsors are individual employers (e.g., a contractor), while others are groups of employers (e.g., unions or non‑union consortiums).
Step 3: Apply for an apprenticeship
- If you’re 18+
- If you’re 16-17 or unable to apply online
- Download an Application for Apprenticeship Training
- Complete and sign the form (if under 18, a parent/guardian must sign)
- Have your sponsor sign it
- Send in your form through email or mail
Step 4: Sign and register your Training Agreement
Once you have been approved, you and your sponsor will sign a Training Agreement. You will formally be registered as an apprentice.
Step 5: Download your Apprenticeship Training Standard Logbook
This book outlines your training schedule. Your sponsor will sign off on skills as you demonstrate proficincy in them.

Colleges in Ontario
Step 1: Explore programs
Find the program directory here and and find pathways that suit your interests and career aspirations.
Step 2: Choose the right fit
Select up to 5 programs with a maximum of 3 per college institution.
Step 3: Plan your application
Check if your qualifications mathc the requirements of the program you are interested in.
Note* Keep an eye on deadlines to ensure you apply on time!

Create an account and apply here.
Step 5: Pay for application
Application Feenon-refundable $150 application fee to apply to college through Ontario Colleges.
The application fee includes up to 5 program choices (no more than 3 at any one college)

$150 base price - gets you 5 applications (no more than 3 at any one college)

Universities in Ontario
Step 1: Select a program
Choose from a list of programs on OUAC.
Step 2: Create your account
Create an OUAC account if you do not already have one.
Step 3: Complete your application & prepare documents
Complete the application on OUAC and prepare the following:
- High school transcript
- Some institutions require this to be ordered through them while some request transcripts be sorted through your school so read the instructions carefully.
- Notify referees in advance
Step 4: Pay for your application
Application Undergraduate Fees:
$156 base price - gets you 3 applications
+$50 for each additional program you apply for.
